Relocation of office to Shibuya

In September 2019, Toridoll consolidated head office functions into SHIBUYA SOLASTA, an office building located in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. With this initiative, we will further strengthen our ability to support the Group’s restaurants, a duty of the head office. We are also planning to use the head office as a hub to promote diverse workstyles and the development of employees’ capabilities.
We will take the consolidation of head office functions as an opportunity to transform our workplaces into a new work environment that fits with the times. We will also promote flexible ways of working that are appropriate for the environment, thereby developing and fostering human resources who are capable of adding new value to the world through food.

Occupational safety initiatives

We established our basic policy on occupational safety and health in March 2017 based on the belief that securing employees’ safety is essential for achieving our corporate philosophy, “Finding new Value. Simply for Your Pleasure.” Under this policy, we have continued to implement activities to prevent occupational accidents, such as improving work clothes, work shoes, and kitchen equipment, posting a map of hazards in each restaurant, and providing restaurant workers with internal training related to the prevention of dangerous work.
As a result, during the three years from the end of fiscal 2016 to the end of fiscal 2018, the incident rate※1 has improved from 4.3, through 3.3, to 2.8, and the frequency rate※2 has improved from 3.66, through 3.01, to 2.67.

Support for non-Japanese employees

The influx of workers from outside Japan has been increasing rapidly in recent years, making it imperative for us to improve the internal training environment.
At Toridoll, we have created and introduced a video work manual, which can be played on tablets, for non-Japanese employees working at our restaurants.
This video facilitates our employee training with audio in five languages (English, Chinese, Nepali, Vietnamese, and Burmese) and easy-to-understand visual instructions.

Active participation of women

Women account for approx. 30% of all employees of Marugame Seimen restaurants in Japan. In addition, women serve as store managers at many of our restaurants as Partner Staff members, so we are promoting the establishment of a system that permits those staff members to balance childcare and work.
As of June 2019, there are 45 female managers at Toridoll, about 10% of the total.

Promoting employment of senior employees

At Toridoll, we have increased the mandatory retirement age from 60 to 65 years old.
2,158 employees are 60 or older (as of January 2019). We also reemploy those who have reached mandatory retirement age (and are under the age of 70) as contract employees, part-time employees, or Partner Staff members upon request, checking their health condition and capabilities.
In addition, we have introduced the “Re: Work” program, which permits retired Partner Staff members to be employed on a daily basis . This program, which is available for retired employees aged under 70, is used by many senior workers because it allows them to work whenever they have spare time, without extra burden.

Toridoll D&I* is a special subsidiary company that we established to promote the employment of people with disabilities.
To allow all of its staff members to fully demonstrate their capabilities, Toridoll D&I values the feeling of accepting each person, efforts to learn a lot about each person, thinking through methods, and making sure to value them. At present, more than 100 staff members are working for Toridoll D&I.

Promotion of an internship for high school students

In 2018, we began to proactively accept high school students as interns in nine prefectures (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Shizuoka, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hyogo). In 2019, we expanded this initiative all over Japan.
This project started from our desire to allow high school students to develop self-confidence and positive attitudes by working together with others and experiencing success in customer service.
The internship program includes classroom lectures for learning our corporate philosophy, hygiene control, our feelings for customers, how to serve them, and others, in addition to experience of actual work such as a noodle-making class, customer service in restaurants, and making rice balls and inari sushi.
Participants commented on their own personal development enabled by the program, saying things like, “I learned that we can achieve something by working together. I was happy when we achieved it,” “I learned how difficult it is to serve customers appropriately. I also learned things that will be useful in the future,” and “I could feel a sense of gratitude more strongly than before.”
As of September 30, 2019, a total of 130 students from 36 high schools have participated in this internship program. We will continue to proactively accept high school students to support their personal development.

Length-of-service awards

We grant length-of-service awards to people (employees and Partner Staff members) who have continued to work for the company for more than 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, and 30 years since the day when they joined the company, as of April 1 every year.
We hold a ceremony to present these awards every year to express our sense of gratitude to those employees. In 2018, the awards were granted to approx. 200 people. The ceremony remained on a high note, with people talking about the early days of the company and other topics, some laughing and others crying.
At Toridoll, we will continue striving to create a work environment that is comfortable for diverse people.
